Is it a good idea to drink an energy drink (like Monster) before a basketball game, and gatorade during?

I just joined back on the basketball team this year and the coach has me out there nearly the whole game. I get winded in the second quarter, (which sucks).

I know that energy drinks like Rockstar or Monster give me endless energy for hours. So what if I drank one before my game and Gatorade during the game? Is that a good idea?
So i guess vitamin water is my best bet?

stay away from the energy drinks prior to any active sports game. stay hydrated by drinking water, powerade, or gatorade. those energy drinks contain too much sugar, artificial energy that when you run out of fuel, who’ll be even more tired than before. keep a warm, room temperature bottle of gatorade or water throughout the game

  3. I would not drink the energy drink before playing a sport, they are mostly made up of caffine and that dehydrates you. The Gatorade is your best bet along with water to drink before and during games.

  4. No I would not do it. The risk of a heart attack is great if you drink a high energy drink which is laced with caffeine and other unknown elements which combined with natural energy which you will be producing when you are running up and down the court could = a disaster. There is not enough medical research yet on these drinks but I am sure they are working on showing their is a relation to heart attacks and other major side effects when used with regular exercise. So If I was you I would not do it as I took a red bull one day then ran 2 miles I thought I was going to die.

No you are just getting loaded with sugar and the same goes for the gatorade. The best thing to take is a liquid vitamin with a natural energy blend like GBG 10 in one the worlds greatest liquid vitamin supplement with 0 carbs 0 sugar 0 calories. you will feel the energy it really delivers!

  7. energy drinks make your heart beat speed up and before a game your heart is already beating quite fast, and you drink that energy drink you take of chance of over loading your heart, just start drinking gatorade 2 days before your game so your body can asborb it and a lot of water!!!!

No it isn’t a good idea to drink something like monster or rockstar before a game it will give you a sugar boost which wont help you with the entire game. Even gatorade isn’t a good idea anymore because now they are adding high fructose corn syrup which is also found in a lot of soda products. I think your best bet would be either vitmain water, or sobe life water. If your going to try vitamin water look for the bottle that says reivive on it I think the actual flavor is fruit punch.
